CUSTOM 3D PRINTING

HOW IT WORKS

1. Make a CAD or .stl file for your design, or find one online from a site such as Thingiverse or GrabCAD.

2. Send your files to us via email to sales@apgind.com with subject line "3D Printing". Please specify any specific material, color, constraints, and how many of each part you need.

3. We'll reply within 1 business day with a free estimate of the cost and lead time for your print(s). For small hobby or prototype parts using PLA or PETG, expect to pay between $5-$15 (excl. shipping).

4. Once you're ready, you'll need to confirm your order via email. As soon as the order is confirmed, we'll schedule your print(s) for the earliest available time. Please note during periods of high demand, availability may be limited and lead times will be longer. When your print(s) are complete, we'll send you an invoice via email and schedule a delivery time.

5. Certain locations are eligible for free shipping - see our Google business listing for more information.

FILAMENT TYPES

For the best results, you'll want to choose the plastic type that works best for your part. To help you make this decision, we've compiled some information about a variety of different materials we can print with.

PLA (Polylactic acid) is a plant-derived polymer common in 3D printing due to its ease of use.

  • Low temperature resistance
  • Suggested uses: Miniatures/figurines, game pieces, prototypes. Reference polymer: Prusament PLA.

PETG (Polyethelene Terephalate Glycol) is a versatile polymer that is durable and easy to print with.

      PROS

  • Tensile modulus: 1.5 GPa
  • Hygroscopic: Yes, mildly
    • CONS
  • Can be stringy
  • Worse bridging than PLA
  • Not vapor smoothable
  • Suggested uses: Functional parts, prototypes, food containers. Reference polymer: Prusament PETG.

ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) is widely used in 3D printing due to its good mechanical properties at a range of temperatures.

ASA (Acrylonitrile styrene acrylate) is an alternative to ABS, with improved weather/UV resistance and printing characteristics.

      PROS
  • Durable
  • Good heat resistance
  • UV/weather stable (ASA)
  • Can be vapor smoothed
    • STATS
  • Cost: $$
  • Deformation temp: 95°C
  • Density: 1.05-1.07 g/cm³
  • Tensile modulus: 1.95-2.01 GPa
  • Hygroscopic: Yes, mildly
    • CONS
  • Prone to warping
  • Worse detail resolution than PLA
  • Suggested uses: Outdoor parts, car accessories, functional parts. Reference filaments: 3DXTech ABS, 3DXTech ASA.

PC (Polycarbonate) blends are engineering-grade filaments used for their toughness, impact resistance, and transparency.

      PROS
  • Excellent heat resistance
  • High impact resistance
  • Can be transparent
  • Can be vapor smoothed
    • STATS
  • Cost: $$$
  • Deformation temp: 112-113°C

  • Tensile modulus: 1.7-2.1 GPa
  • Hygroscopic: Yes, mildly
    • CONS
  • Expensive
  • Prone to warping
  • Suggested uses: Engineering applications, automotive/marine parts, functional parts. Reference filaments: 3DXTech PC/ASA Blend, Prusament PC Blend.

Nylon (Polyamide 6/66) is a synthetic fiber used widely in textiles, but also in 3D printing due to its good mechanical properties.

      PROS
  • Good heat resistance
  • Good chemical resistance
  • Can be glass-fiber or carbon-fiber reinforced
    • STATS
  • Cost: $$$
  • Deformation temp: 97°C
  • Density: 1.06 g/cm³
  • Tensile modulus: 2.1 GPa
  • Hygroscopic: Yes, very
    • CONS
  • Expensive compared to ABS/ASA
  • No vapor smoothing
  • Suggested uses: Car accessories, engineering applications (CF/GF reinforced), functional parts. Reference filament: 3DXTech Nylon 6/66.

TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethane) and related flexible filaments have a glass transition temp lower than room temp, meaning they can stretch and bend.

      PROS
  • High elasticity
  • Suitable for impact-absorbing parts
  • No warping
    • STATS
  • Cost: $$$
  • Hardness: Shore 98A
  • Density: 1.23 g/cm³
    • CONS
  • Poor heat resistance
  • Expensive
  • Suggested uses: Phone/electronic cases, RC vehicle wheels, grips/covers. Reference filament: Fillamentum Flexfill 98A.

    Explanation of mechanical properties:

  • Cost: Relative price of 1kg of filament. Some of this cost is transferred to you.
  • Deformation temp: The temperature at which the material can no longer bear useful load. Tends to be right around the glass transition temp.
  • Density: A less dense plastic will make for lighter parts, and vice versa.
  • Tensile modulus: A material constant which indicates how much a material stretches under stress. Brittle plastics have a higher tensile modulus.
  • Hygroscopic: A material's tendency to absorb water. This is less relevant for finished parts.
  • Currently available* filaments and colors: PLA (Orange, Gray); PETG (Red, Green); ABS (Black); PC/ASA blend (White).

    * For an additional stocking fee, we can order a specific color or material not listed here. This fee is dependent on the price of the material and is subject to change. We guarantee that PLA, PETG, and ABS will be available in at least 1 color at all times.

    PRICING & FEES

We price custom prints on a per-item basis, this means that we cannot provide an estimate until we have a 3D model of the part(s).

Our prices are based on a combination of material costs and print time, so you only pay for what you need. We strive to provide competitive pricing for both small and large parts.

      ADDITIONAL FEES:
  • Filament Stocking: Amount varies by filament.*
  • CAD Modeling: Only offered on a case-by-case basis.
    • OPTIONAL ADDONS:
  • Acetone Vapor Smoothing: Only offered for prints using ABS, ASA, or PC blend.
  • Top Layer Ironing: Available for all plastics.
    • AMOUNT (USD)
  • 5.00 - 20.00
  • 5.00 - 100.00+
    • AMOUNT (USD)
  • 5.00 per part
  • 2.00 per part
  • * This fee is only charged if your print requires a specific color of a plastic which we already have in stock in other colors.
